It’s a sign of summer – mama horses nursing their babies, sharing their short time together. Soon their foals will be weaned, learn to eat on their own, and undergo training necessary for their adult life. This little one does not look all that little even next his rather tall mother – a rare sight these days. Years ago, when the reference photo for this drawing was taken, foals were allowed to nurse until they were 6 and even 8 months old.
