Picked up my remaining items from the Beaverton Art Mix! show today. I was on the fence about bringing so many of my horse drawings, not knowing how well they would be received there, but to my surprise most of them have been sold. Thank you, horse-loving people! Thank you everyone who came to see the show, to the Beaverton Arts Program people who organized the show so well, to all the volunteers who helped them! I would love to be a part of it next year.

Very happy to announce that my 8″ x 8″ mixed media piece on canvas has been juried into the Around Oregon Annual 2019 show.

A big thank you to to everyone who came to see my art and beautiful creations of my fellow artists Brenda Scott and Cheri Bosserman this past weekend. The Damascus Open Studios were great. Wonderful company, lots of good talks, and many sales. Could not ask for more!
Delivered my latest drawing to the Sequoia Gallery today. It is for the HIP 2B Square show that benefits this nice and cozy cooperative gallery and its artist studios. The show opens on April 2nd with a reception and award announcements and runs through May 3.
Sequoia Gallery is located at 136 SE 3rd Avenue, Hillsboro, OR 97123. Hours: Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm.
The gallery provided an option of a 12″ x 12″ Blick canvas or primed and cradled wood panel, and I chose the panel.
After the fiasco with an Ampersand panel it was interesting to try something different. To my delight, the texture of the gessoed wooden surface was strong but pretty even and was almost as easy to work with as good textured paper. I will do more with it, just maybe without cradles. Not a big fan of working edges of those things.
For the second year, I will have a booth at this wonderful show. Come if you can, meet amazing local artists and enjoy their creations!
Dec. 1 from 9 am till 4 pm
December 2 from 10 am till 4 pm
Pioneer Community Center, 615 5th St, Oregon City
I’ve entered several drawings into the Landscapes Art Competition at the Light, Space, and Time Online Gallery and quite pleased with the results. “Truckee River” received a Special Recognition award, “River Of Light” got a Honorable Mention.
I will have four new 8″ x 8″ mixed media pieces in the Four Eights Artist Challenge II exhibit and art sale at the Center for the Arts.
This exhibit will showcase artworks created during the Four Eights an Artists Challenge II that tasked participating artists with creating original artwork around a singular theme on four square canvases, each canvas being 8″ x 8″. All artwork will be for sale and priced between $30 and $100.
My theme this year is “relations” expressed through flowers, leaves, and branches that make a bush or a tree, all different yet inseparable. See how the first canvas came to life.
An opening reception for Four Eights will be on Thursday, October 12, from 6:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. Stop by to meet the artists, curators and other art lovers, enjoy refreshments and live acoustic music.

Open: every day, 9 am – 4 pm.
Sadly, I missed the reception for this show because of the trip to Russia and didn’t have time to see it before leaving, so had to check it out after coming back. This was one impressive show, and not just because I love small works of art. It’s fascinating to see what different artists can do with the same set of four square canvases, how different their styles and subjects are, and how beautiful the walls covered with 8″ x 8″ squares look.
All my creatures were sold. Hopefully they all are sharing the same happy home now.
Sharon Orella, the show coordinator said that my artworks were very popular and sold very quickly. That’s very nice to hear; I hoped that my creatures would connect with people and be appreciated for their beauty and character.
I am going to be a part of an interesting show at the Sherwood Center for the Arts. Artist are challenged to create and complete four 8”x 8” painting canvases which are provided by the Center.
Because I do not paint, my entries are drawings attached to tissue paper collages that are attached to the canvases. The collage part is messy but beautiful and freeing. This is where I do not have to pay attention to details and can let pastels and rubbing alcohol do their magic on pieces of torn paper.
The show will run from October 21 to December 8, 2016. The Opening Gala will be on October 21.
The Sherwood Center for the Arts is located at 22689 SW Pine St, Sherwood, OR 97140.

Just learned that one of my pieces in the Bay Area Wildlife art show, Explorer, was featured in The Epoch Times newspaper. Nice surprise. Thanks Teresa Silvestri for letting me know!
Newborn won the Best Realism Award at the Fall Festival Art Show
And it’s done! I don’t think there is anything to add to it, but if I were to do this piece all over again I would approach it completely differently. It was a nice detour from fully realistic colors and a few purely technique-related things I usually use.
He looks more like a living creature now and almost ready for darks to be added. The white stripe will need some gentle work first.
Well, it’s been a while since I started this portrait, several different small projects got in the way, but finally I am back to the little foal.
In the end, he won’t be nearly as colorful as right now (or at least I hope for that), but it will be interesting to see what bright violet and yellows will be able to add to regular coat colors.
I think it’s been a terrible while since I drew a horse that fits on piece of paper bigger that 4″ x 6″. Time to change that, so here’s the beginning of a very young foal’s head. Because for some reason I chose rough Bienfang watercolor paper, it may take a while to build up colors in this one. And it’s not just rough, it’s somewhat slippery too. But we will see. So far it was mostly working on the background to get a better feel of the paper that is new to me before adding much detail to the foal.
I will have several artworks in this show including the newest one:
